Turn Composite Veneers into Masterpieces
Jul 13, 2023Composite resin is an attractive veneer choice for some patients as it can be done in one visit and at a lower price point compared to porcelain. However, patients expect the same aesthetic outcomes as porcelain, they expect we can deliver a poster-perfect smile. We know that is easier said than done when handcrafting directly in the mouth.
My top 3 tips to making composite look as beautiful (or as close as possible!) as porcelain:
- Use specialised instruments for modelling anterior teeth, especially facial surfaces. The 3 instruments that you see in the video that I use are from the LM Arte series - Solo Anterior, Condensa and Fissura.
- Create optical depth by layering dentine and enamel composite, unless the restoration is small. I use Kerr Harmonize in the video which I find is sculptable, not too sticky and polishes very well. Other composite that I can recommend are 3M Filtek Supreme and Inspiro.
- Add natural tooth anatomy by creating primary, secondary and tertiary anatomy - channel your inner Michaelangelo!
